Join artist educator Peri-Laine Nilan in-store at Opus Coquitlam for a fun Demo Station experience exploring Opus “Brand” Brushes. 

In this 15-minute, drop-in activity, Peri-Laine will help you navigate the various Opus brush ranges to find the one that’s right for you. Peri will explain the characteristics of each and demonstrate how attributes like size, shape, bristle texture (soft-firm),  natural vs synthetic might be helpful in your painting practice. 

This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions and see how the different brush options feel, and have Peri help guide you to ensure you have the proper brush for your specific artistic needs; register today!

The session will cover how to choose the right brush or tool for each task, explore different mark-making options, and provide ideas for applying these techniques to enjoyable abstract projects. There will also be the option to incorporate mixed media into your work!

Build confidence drawing a variety of subjects using pen & ink techniques. Then add quick watercolour washes to enhance your drawings. Perfect for sketching on the spot, ‘plein air’ or travel sketching. Reference images will be supplied, or bring your own.

Make your own hand made seasonal cards with ink and watercolour. Class includes demonstration of basic watercolour application after completing a drawing with pencil, then outlining with permanent ink pen. Supplies included, or bring your own.

Learn the steps to create a successful painting. Practice colour mixing, brush strokes, blending techniques, and more. Geared towards beginners, this class will give you what you need to get started but is excellent review for the more experienced. Work from reference photos provided, or bring your own. Experienced gouache painters are welcome to attend, however instruction will be in acrylic.

Please bring supplies to first class. Suggested supply list provided at time of registration.

Urban sketching (usually on the spot) includes a variety of subjects, from table top items to people & pets, to natural elements, to all kinds of street scenes. In this course, we will practice pen and ink drawing, review basic perspective, and learn to apply loose watercolour washes to enhance your sketches. Reference images will be supplied, but you are welcome to bring your own.
